Mark 1: 16-18:

16 One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. 17 Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” 18 And they left their nets at once and followed him.

Like to fish? How about for People? What did Jesus mean, fish for people, why are we catching them? If you remember last week, Jesus came preaching that the KINGDOM OF GOD was Near! Jesus was calling people to begin to live in the KINGDOM……RIGHT NOW! We still have the opportunity to call people to that kind of lifestyle right now. One thing I have discovered is that Kingdom living is something that has to be shown, not just told about. If people were to watch your life TODAY….what would lead them to embrace the Kingdom way of life?…..cause they are watching you! I am praying for you today….choose to live in the KINGDOM!

PS Please remember, as far as this Sunday, we will be having a very important Family Meeting after the 10:00 service. If FreshStart is a place that you call home, I trust you will plan to be there. The Vision Team has asked me to share with you some critical changes that may be around the corner at FreshStart. If this is your home, please make EVERY effort to be there for this meeting next Sunday morning!

Dear Friends,

Thanks you for your prayers today. I am feeling much better. I went to the Dr. Yesterday and he has me on some SUPER-Strength Meds. I am feeling better and plan to be in the office this afternoon! I am really excited about this weekend’s service and hope you are planning to be there.

Please remember, as far as this Sunday, we will be having a very important Family Meeting after the 10:00 service. If FreshStart is a place that you call home, I trust you will plan to be there. The Vision Team has asked me to share with you some critical changes that may be around the corner at FreshStart. If this is your home, please make EVERY effort to be there for this meeting next Sunday morning!

Let’s get back into the Book of Mark:

Mark 1: 16-18:
16 One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. 17 Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” 18 And they left their nets at once and followed him.

We have three days left this week and three verses, let’s take them one at a time. These verses show us Jesus looking for his first disciples. In Jesus’ day, all Rabbis had disciples, but fishermen were not the men they were looking for. Fishermen would have been people who had “failed”, if you would, the Hebrew requirements. They had left Hebrew school to learn the family trade…they were not good enough…..BUT THEY WERE TO JESUS!!!!!!!

Why did Jesus pick these men? I think it was, first of all, they had TIME! They had been passed over by the other Rabbis and they had time. Secondly, as we know from hind-sight, they were TEACHABLE…..maybe a little slow at times, but they could learn. Finally, in the end, they were faithful, not all of them, but for the most part they were faithful.

So? What might Jesus be looking for today? I think maybe the same thing. Think you might have failed, “Sunday School”, don’t know all the answers? I have great news…..Jesus would call on you! Jesus is looking for people with TIME. Time to walk his path, serve in his Kingdom and time to live out his ideals. Jesus is looking for people who are TEACHABLE, willing to learn the way of the Kingdom. Jesus has told us that HE IS THE WAY…..so we follow him. Jesus is looking for people who will be faithful, NOT PERFECT, but FAITHFUL. It’s a direction, not perfection (Jesus calls us to perfection in Matthew also and we will talk about that someday, a whole other lesson)

So the GREAT NEWS……Jesus wants YOU to be his disciple. What are you going to do with your “nets”?

I am praying for you today. Would you pray for me also? THANKS!
