Today’s FreshBread – April 28

Today’s Reading is Matthew 22:23-33

Here we go again…. Jesus is teaching and just blowing people away. WHY? Because the Truth is something these people had not heard for a long time. You see it is very easy to fall pray to teaching and lose your desire to discover Truth. Think about that for a moment. The stories that Jesus told were people who discovered Truth, something that is discovered as we live a life of faith (found lost coin, found pearl of great price, etc.). God’s teaching of the Truth helps us in our adventure. However when you have been subjected to the controlling teaching of the Pharisees for so long…. Well, this Truth is a breath of fresh-air!

Jesus did not argue with a group of Pharisees that were trying to trap Him, he just spoke Truth to the crowd. Now for some of us the “NO marriage in heaven is a bummer”…. I love my wife and I can’t be married in heaven. With that thought I miss the point and the Truth.

Marriage, when lived according to God’s plan, is to be an earthly example of the love affair that God has with us. When we are in heaven with God we will have the REAL Thing and it will be so much better then the best marriage today. That is so hard to comprehend, but it is true!

We think that marriage is for our pleasure to get through life with a partner. There may be some truth in this statement, but marriage is an opportunity for those of us in it to reflect the love of God and a perfect relationship with Him. What an opportunity we have in that. This is why participating in sex outside of marriage for a believer is troubling because it is a confusing signal to the world around us as we give them a wrong view of God’s relationship with us…. we cheapen it.

This weekend I will officiate a wedding. I love doing weddings. Marriage is one of God’s greatest gifts here on earth because it is a reminder of a much deeper gift we will have one day with God! We need to be reminded of the purpose of our marriage regularly. It is just something for those of us whom are married to ponder and those of us who aren’t to keep aware of as God might be leading you to that place in your life.

Have a great day…See you tomorrow!

Today’s Reading is Matthew 22:15-22

Okay, I have a question for you……This story shows the brilliance of Jesus. In our day we know what belongs to “Caesar” we all just paid it on April 15th. However, Jesus also said to give God what is His…..So in our day, what is God’s part? Have any thoughts? I’d love to hear why you think so! Have a great day pondering!

Today’s Reading is Matthew 22:11-14

Okay, so you have had a little time to wrestle with which group you would find yourself in Jesus’ wedding feast story! But why now does the King (God) kick someone out, and what are the wrong clothes all about?

The host would have provided the wedding garment that is spoken of here, and so not wearing it meant that you where wearing what you had on and rejected the Kings clothing. To live in the Kingdom of God (His rule as we have spoken of) means that I not only trust God but I also allow Him to cloth me for the Kingdom Living.

I know some folks who believe in God and thank Him for what Jesus did on the cross. This act, they believe, gives them the Power now to accomplish “right acts” in life. They have missed the point. With Christ’s death…you have died too (Galatians 2:20), and so you need to put on the “resurrection” (clothes if you will) to live everyday! So there is no way to walk each day as God would like you to – our only hope is to surrender again today and allow Him to live through us. This is showing up with the right clothes! Have you surrendered today to God’s direction and leading, or do you have your own clothes on? Just some thoughts to ponder… Remember it is the ONLY way to make it at the wedding feast!
