Today’s Reading is Matthew 5:17 – 22

In our reading today Jesus assures the Jews of His day that He is not against God’s ways. He lets them know He is not coming through the law away but to fulfill it. The problem was that laws were being used to judge people’s worth and the truth of the law that God wanted written on our hearts was being lost. That same thing has happened in our day too.

For years people were judged on how close they were to God, or on how good of a Christian they were by whether they went to Christ every week. That is crazy! Going to church is not what makes you more worthy to God. HOWEVER….going to church and meeting with other believers every week is a great thing if you want to walk with God in a deeper way. This does not make you more worthy, but it does help with you spiritual journey. In the effort to not be judgmental, Christians today have thrown the “baby out with the bath water.”

Jesus is telling us in our reading today, He came to bring the Law to life… to show us how it was to be written on our hearts. The rest of His message is going to describe that for us! Have a great day and I will see you at church!

Today’s Reading is Matthew 5:13

You are the Salt of the Earth. What does salt do? ….Three things: First it is a preservative. Salt was put on meat in the past in order to preserve it! Secondly, salt can be a healer. If you have a cut and swim in the salt water it can be a good thing. It may be a little painful, but it will bring healing. Finally salt adds flavor. You take a bland dish and add a little salt and the dish is spiced up.

Jesus did not say that we should become salt but He said you ARE the salt of the earth. That means as Christ followers we do not have to learn or grow into bringing flavor, healing or preserving situations but that is part of the roll God gives us.

I just heard today that a court in this country wants to remove the reading of the words about God from the Declaration of Independence….now that is a situation that needs some preserving. When I see people at each other’s throat in a work place, I think if only there was a Christ follower here who could bring some healing. And whenever I see a party going in the wrong direction or one with no direction I wonder, where is the Christian that might bring favor to this party or gathering.

Jesus has given us a huge role in this world….maybe it is time to stop trying to become who we are and just be who He made us to be!

Have a Great day!
